Bronx Collaborative HS hiring in multiple subjects (math, science, world languages, art, special education)

MATHEMATICS/MATEMÁTICAS

Algebra 2/Trigonometry Teacher Needed.  Our school is focused on Problem-Based Learning.  We use real world phenomena and case studies of the concepts in application to provide students a hands-on problem-solving atmosphere where they can explore the concepts in an organic way.  As a member of the NY Performance Standards Consortium we have a Regents Waiver and do not need to terminate courses with Regents Exams.  Our 11th and 12th grade Math Courses focus on completing Performance Based Assessment Tasks (PBATs) which explore novel math problems and require students to apply number theory and logic/problem solving to explain why certain phenomena can be analyzed and solved using specific math theories.

A strong Algebra 2/Trigonometry teacher at our school will be able to integrate real-world right angle phenomena, unit circle analysis, exponents, systems of equations & function notation, sin/cosine/tangent/secants, and other advanced concepts to solidly prepare students for calculus.

SCIENCE/CIENCIA

One (1) Physics Teacher Needed.

One (1) Earth Science needed.

Bronx Collaborative High School is a problem-based learning school that challenges students to "Solve a Problem. Change the World!"  We use real-world phenomena and case-studies to research, analyze, discuss, and propose solutions for the 21st century challenges being explored by communities of practice.  Students engage as "academic detectives" who apply specific theories and ideas of the disciplines they study to create and present solutions.

In past physics classes students analyzed the original comic and film phenomenon of Spider-Man accidentally killing Mary Jane trying to grab her during a fall with a web, by visualizing the physics dynamics and identifying the exact set of physics based actions Spiderman would have needed to take to cushion her fall rather than breaking it.  We are looking for a physics teacher who is willing to explore designing six-week units around specific driving problems like this that bring alive the standard course content in hands-on ways.  We would like a teacher comfortable with doing both a math-heavy version of the course which students taking Calculus or Precalculus would be scheduled for AS WELL AS a math-light version that could be used with 9th or 10th graders wanting an entry level into the physical world concepts.

In past Earth Science classes, students studied the chemistry of pollutants and factory farming and how these led to water and soil degradation.  In looking at issues like fertilizer pollution leading to Eutrophication “dead zones” in the Gulf of Mexico, the disastrous effects of monocropping/monoculture farming, and the flaws of man-made attempts to use fisheries to restore damaged biodiversity.

WORLD LANGUAGES/IDIOMAS DEL MUNDO
French Teacher Needed.

We have a Transitional Bilingual Education program in Spanish for the last 13 years.  We are hoping to slowly build out one in French to provide more linguistic responsiveness to Afro-Caribbean students for whom French is a first language as well as for French language learners.

ARTS/ARTES

ONE (1) THEATER TEACHER NEEDED.

ONE (1) MUSIC TEACHER NEEDED- SPECIALIZATION FLEXIBLE- VOCAL/INSTRUMENTAL/JAZZ/ROCK.

Bronx Collaborative High School is a problem-based learning school.  We use real-world phenomena and case-studies to research, analyze, discuss, and propose solutions for the 21st century challenges being explored by communities of practice.  Students engage as "academic detectives" who apply specific theories and ideas of the disciplines they study to create and present solutions.

In music, students explore ethnomusicology, music theory, and music appreciation to best understand the evolution of music genres and the impact of music across cultures.  Students explore units like "Does anybody really own music?," "Heavy Blues to Heavy Metal," "My indigenity-- cultural appropriation vs cultural apreciation."  Some students in our Arts Professions in NYC house will take advanced courses in "Musical Theater," "Writing Music for Performance," and "Songwriting."

In theater courses, students explore dramatic literature, theater history, and the mediums of television and cinema.  Students explore dramaturgical concepts by looking at the structure, context, characters, language, and themes present in plays.  After learning the theories and practices of different authors and the approach present in the original staging of the plays, students apply this knowledge both to researched essays and original productions in which they advise/produce/direct to bring these theories and practices alive. Students collaborate on both famous works and original works to develop their own approach to performing, producing, and directing.

SPECIAL EDUCATION

Need three (3) Special Education teachers for Collaborative Team Teaching.

We are seeking a Special Education teacher to join our innovative, student-centered school community. Our model empowers subject teachers to design original courses, supported by time and resources, while offering a unique assessment system authorized by the NYS Assembly that replaces traditional exams with rigorous papers and oral defense panels. In this environment, ICT teachers collaborate closely with content teachers to ensure that Problem-Based Learning, AP courses, Capstone Projects, and Performance-Based Assessment Tasks (PBATs) remain accessible and engaging for students with disabilities (SWD). Ideal candidates have experience with Response to Intervention (RTI) and Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and can effectively implement these within Collaborative Team Teaching settings. We value educators who are adaptable, collaborative, and skilled at going beyond basic scaffolding—those who can break down complex concepts, build enduring understanding, and design instruction that ensures all students can meet high expectations.
