Community Service and Internships

From weekly community service visits to full-time semester internships, Consortium students travel beyond the classroom to learn about their communities and themselves. The experience offers both in-depth civic involvement as well as the chance for students to discover their own talents and potential. In local city councilpersons’ offices, in food banks, museums and artists’ cooperatives, kindergartens and classrooms, animal shelters, legal aid offices, and more students engage with a wide range of adults in real-world settings.

Consortium teachers and advisors meet with students throughout the year to focus on their individual interests, aspirations, and then search for the most suitable placements. Some students may try a variety of placements while others may commit to one long-term.  Their teachers and advisors are there to listen and support them.
