Bronx International High School Openings: ENL/ELA, Math, Students with Disabilities, Science and Physical Education
BRONX INTERNATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL Welcomes You!
We are one of the 15 International High Schools in NYC that serve multilingual learners that have recently immigrated to the country. As a school community, we commit to equitable practices and actively disrupt the impact of inequitable practices at the individual, institutional, and structural levels. We use a collaborative, project-based approach to teaching English through content, so every teacher is a language teacher regardless of the content area. Our approach to teaching is career contextualized, student-centered and project-based, allowing our heterogeneous population of students to meet and exceed the requirements of traditional high schools as they prepare for a pathway to high growth and high wage careers. Teachers in our school demonstrate the following abilities:
Design and teach curricula to heterogeneous classes of multilingual learners of many academic levels, languages, and cultures.
Link subject area curricula to a variety of careers and other content areas, incorporating discussion of current events, hands-on experiences in the community, and meaningful connections to students’ interests and experiences.
Create project-based curricula and performance-based assessment tasks.
Use an inquiry-based approach to teach classes.
Work in a close-knit team of 5-6 teachers of various disciplines to plan content and language instruction and create a supportive community for our diverse students. Also, work collaboratively with other teachers to design curricula and assessments and support each other in improving teaching practices.
Mentor a small group advising during crew sessions that includes community building, identity development, reflective socioemotional learning, work based experiences, and interest exploration.
Participate in developing and implementing new ideas in the school.
Develop a curriculum that uses the resources of NYC and helps students to apply their learning in real-world settings.
Knowledge of mastery-based grading assessment practices, culturally responsive curriculum and restorative justice approaches.
