About Vanguard High School
Vanguard is a small high school in New York City founded 30 years ago by Louis Delgado as part of an initiative to replicate the success of Central Park East’s performance assessment and student-centered model. Our commitment to the Coalition of Essential Schools’ Twelve Principles and the New York State Performance Based Standards Consortium drives our educational philosophy. Please familiarize yourself with our school via our website.

We have high expectations, shared accountability, are student-centered, and use performance-based instruction and assessment to measure what our students learn. We are a supportive and collaborative community committed to our students’ achievement during and after high school. We have a robust college and career planning office and encourage our students and teachers to think outside the box about their learning.

Vanguard students fulfill graduation requirements by demonstrating their knowledge through the completion of five Academic Portfolios and presentations to graduation committees, as well as achieving success on the ELA Regents Exam.
