Lyons hiring History teacher, Mathematics teacher, Special Education Teacher and a 1-year leave replacement Spanish or ASL teacher

Lyons Community School is seeking candidates for the following positions starting in September 2025: History teacher, Mathematics teacher, Special Education Teacher and a 1-year leave replacement Spanish or ASL teacher.

Lyons Community School is united in its commitment to unconventional learning, unconditional support, and the unlimited potential of our students. Located in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn, we are a small, progressive, unscreened New York City public secondary school with a liberal arts focus. We are members of the NYS Performance Standards Consortium. All students present Roundtable presentations in their core subjects twice a year, and high school students complete graduation-level Performance Based Assessment Task (PBAT) requirements instead of most Regents exams. Our academic program includes inquiry-based projects, field studies classes where students travel to various sites across the city, and skills instruction tailored to meet students' needs.

We are a Restorative Justice school, focusing on repairing harm. We believe that most of our work to reduce harm involves daily community and relationship building, along with clear, supportive systems and expectations. Teachers act as advisors, supporting students' social-emotional and academic journeys. We seek staff members who are passionate about working with our young people and committed to finding ways to support our students in learning, growing, and becoming their best selves.

Applicants must be NYS certified.

If you are interested in being part of a community where:

  • We teach in an inquiry-based manner with teacher-created curricula, while providing students with support and structures for their journey.

  • Staff are reflective, internally motivated, and continually working to improve their practice, with a particular focus on implicit biases.

  • Everyone is known, has a voice, is seen first for their strengths, and loved for their vulnerabilities.

  • We work to be anti-racist individuals developing community through collaboration, mutual support, and commitment to a vision.

  • You will be part of a remarkably vibrant community that strives for a world as we want it to be, while being grounded in the world we live in.

Please send your resume and cover letter to lyons@lyonscommunityschool.org. If you have a statement of purpose, please include it as well.
