Humanities Preparatory Academy is a small school located in the Bayard Rustin Campus in the heart of Chelsea. Our 260 students come from all five boroughs and form a tight-knit community based on our Core Values. Humanities Prep is the only school in the city with a hybrid model of enrollment. Half of our students come to us as 9th graders, and the other half are transfer students who began their high school careers somewhere else. We strongly believe that this diverse integrated model helps all students succeed.

It is the mission of the Humanities Preparatory Academy to provide a philosophical and practical education for all students as well as an education that features creativity and inquiry. We require habitual reading across the disciplines and cherish self-reflection and original thought. We agree with Socrates that the “unexamined life is not worth living,” and it is our desire to prepare students to live thoughtful and meaningful lives. We are committed to inspiring a love of learning in our students.

Humanities Prep Staff Members support our school mission by:

  • Collaborating with departments, teams and other staff to plan, implement & assess curriculum & work on policies that move our school forward

  • Developing  and implementing written, oral, and visual Performance Based Assessments and project-based curricula

  • Serving as advisors, fostering positive and supportive relationships with students that further their social and academic development

  • Communicating regularly with parents and students around issues concerning students' academic development and emotional well-being

  • Coordinating extracurricular clubs, after-school study groups, and other professional and administrative responsibilities, including participating in weekly staff meetings, school retreats and tutoring

  • Utilizing a range of teaching and learning strategies to support all students, including special education and English language learners, in heterogeneous classrooms

We are looking forward to meeting you! Please send your resume and letter of interest to Principal Georgieann Ramsudh at georgieann@humanitiesprep.org.
