Job Description

Work with a team to refine a rigorous program that delivers excellent results and develop highly engaging lessons aligned with New York Next Generation State standards, curriculum and progressive pedagogical philosophy.
Take part in community building and Special Education professional development, receiving and/or providing ongoing coaching and development, observing lessons regularly and delivering targeted feedback to teachers, facilitating co-planning, and professional learning experiences for all educators.
Work together with teachers to adapt curriculum, provide remediation, and utilize co-teaching models to scaffold learning for students.
Maintain compliance and reporting of MLL, IEP and 504 processes including communication of such to the BCO, Caregivers and Families, School Staff, affected students, and other relevant parties, as necessary.
Build a warm and inclusive classroom environment, implementing restorative practices.

Actively build trusting relationships and seek partnership with families through consistent engagement, proactive communication and support the IEP, 504, and eligibility meeting process with family members.
Conduct vocational assessments and other needed universal basic screeners for struggling students, and communicate clearly and effectively about next steps to support students both within the school, and with caregivers, and related service providers as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Valid NYS Special Education Certification (7-12)
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution
Experience in implementation of curricular and instructional programs at the secondary level
Experience in an urban high school setting preferred
Successful experience in teaching at the secondary level
STEM subject area fluency
Humanities subject area fluency
Experience with diverse communities
Knowledge of Restorative Practices
Knowledge of equity-based/mastery-based grading
Knowledge of SESIS and experience with writing IEPs
