Strong candidates for this teaching position will:

  • Collaborate with other teachers to create and teach dynamic lessons, regularly reflecting on their practice to improve student engagement and learning outcomes.

  • Design a highly engaging classroom environment, built on mutual respect, where students are being challenged and challenging one another

  • Create stimulating, effective, and authentic formative and project-based assessment, using a backward-planning model and well-designed rubrics

  • Teach for deep understanding using an inquiry-based approach and constructivist pedagogy, rather than a focus on "coverage" of topics

  • Ensure all students are accessing the material using thoughtful differentiation for heterogeneous classes

  • Build content knowledge through strong literacy practices and rich primary and secondary texts 

  • Develop students’ skills in the key areas of critical thinking, constructive collaboration, problem solving, and effective written and oral communication of ideas

  • Serve as a supportive advisor to a group of 15-20 students

  • Communicate regularly with parents and students around student academic development and emotional well-being issues

  • Participate in a variety of professional development and reflective practices - such as reflective teacher inquiry, curriculum development workshops, professional conferences, etc.

  • Honor the power and agency of young people 

  • Use restorative approaches to resolve conflicts
