Community School for Social Justice (CSSJ) is hiring a Secondary Special Education/Students with Disabilities teacher.
CSSJ is located in the Mott Haven neighborhood in the South Bronx close to the 2, 4, 5 and 6 trains.
About our School:
CSSJ is a small and nurturing community. Our school culture is built upon a four year advisory cycle and Restorative Practices. We are a part of the NYS Performance Standards Consortium, therefore our curriculum is inquiry-based and teacher-created and our students complete performance assessments instead of most Regents Exams. CSSJ is a “hidden gem” according to a former Salutatorian, and we support students to achieve their post-secondary goals through our innovative curriculum and engaging community partnerships like NYC Outward Bound and NY Edge.
What are we looking for in a teacher?
Familiarity and/or openness to standards-based grading methods and inquiry-based instruction;
Willingness to incorporate social justice topics into your curriculum;
Experience with accommodating diverse learners;
Willingness to self-reflect, grow, and learn from students and colleagues;
Openness to restorative practices;
Ability to thrive in a co-teaching environment.
