The Kurt Hahn School: Special Education Opening for 2019-20

Candidates must have New York State and New York City certification with effective or highly effective ratings. Please see the NYC Department of Education website for current hiring restrictions.

The Kurt Hahn Expeditionary Learning School (the Kurt Hahn School) is a 9-12 school working in partnership with New York City Outward Bound and EL Education to arm students with the knowledge, skills and character necessary to serve as informed, thoughtful and courageous civic leaders in their own communities and beyond.   The Kurt Hahn School’s partnership with NYC Outward Bound means that all students will participate in adventure and wilderness courses designed to enhance the development of rigorous academic skills while inspiring character development and critical self-discovery. EL Education is a proven national school design that leads to high levels of student achievement and family engagement by providing the school faculty and leadership with a rigorous sequence of professional development activities that are rooted in Outward Bound’s educational approach. (Learn more at www.nycoutwardbound.org and www.elschools.org.)

Kurt Hahn is also a member of the New York Performance Standards Consortium, a group of New York schools who have been granted the right to use Performance-Based Assessment Tasks (PBATs) rather than the standardized testing system of the Regents Exams as part of our gradation requirements. (Learn more at www.performanceassessment.org.)

Additionally, Kurt Hahn participates in the Progressive Redesign Opportunity for Schools of Excellence (PROSE) program, which allows schools to implement innovative plans that fall outside of the Chancellor’s Regulations or UFT contract. As a result, Kurt Hahn has a unique evaluation system that utilizes teacher-led inquiry and portfolios to drive teacher learning and development.
