Brooklyn International HS 12th Grade Arts/Makerspace Position
The Brooklyn International High School is currently accepting applications for a one-year sabbatical leave replacement teacher for the 2018-2019 school year. The subject/content area is flexible so dream big and be prepared to create a year-long, interdisciplinary, student-centered, project-based curriculum possibly including (but not limited to) elements of theater, filmmaking, DIY, design thinking, music, activism, computer-science, the visual arts, game-design and/or social justice. Experience with digital fabrication tools and/or designing curriculum for makerspaces is a plus. The Brooklyn International High School students are all recently-arrived, English language learners from more than 40 different countries and speak over 30 different languages. Our school is part of the non-profit Internationals Network for Public Schools and we use a collaborative based learning environment to help students develop language and content knowledge. Ideal candidates are excited about working with a diverse student population and are excited about helping students acquire and develop their English Language skills through meaningful content and contexts. Additionally, candidates should value working in a highly collaborative environment with an interdisciplinary team of colleagues. As a 23-year member of the New York Performance Standards Consortium, we seek to provide students with hands-on, project-based learning opportunities. Our teachers design engaging curriculum that is relevant to our students' lives and builds on the knowledge and skills they will need to succeed in college and careers.
Certification in arts education preferred, but we are open to reviewing applicants with other certifications.
